Self-Reflection

This is a re-post. I didn't have any followers at the time and this is one of my favorite poems . I would love to hear what you think of it. My life has changed dramatically since I wrote this.

Looking In the mirror
reflecting on the past.
How I often wondered,
how it went so fast.
The opportunities I've squandered.
The blessings I've missed,
while living my life in total ignorance.
Not really understanding how to remain optimistic.
I abandoned my morals and ignored my religion.
But God cast a storm that influenced my decision.
Before you knew it I was at his submission.
He held me tight. Then let me go.
Then whispered to me: "Fear no more".
I got up and knew: right away,
that today was the beginning
of the rest of my days.
With renewed faith
and a sense of purpose
I was able to recover
what almost perished.
Now I stand here
Looking in the mirror
admiring my self
Reflection that is.

Champ this poem touches my very soul! Spiritually uplifting, feeling me with much faith!

You said God cast a storm that influenced your decisions. And before you knew it, you were at his submission! You've read my post, so you know from some of my ranting I've got some issues LOL! Nevertheless I know who's in control, and I know he can change my life if I just ask and believe it faithfully. Submitting to the most high, the only one who matters after our physical flesh has fled this worldly life.

I saw The Book of Eli, over the weekend, and Champ if you haven't seen it yet, you must!

Blessings Meagan,
Meagan

Deep poem. I can definitely relate to everything spoken. Sometimes I reflect on the bad decisions I've made and I wish that I could go back and change them all, but it's not possible. So I look towards the present and realize the importance of making sound decisions.

@ Don... So true evry bad decision has a positive lesson that can emerge from it and if you have time to make it right. Then make it right.

I can relate. I've had my share of storms, but they definitely made me stronger and increased my dependence on God. Things I may have labeled as mistakes in the past were actually blessings in disguise. I really don't have any regrets, I chalk them up as learning experiences and just things I needed to experience to prepare me for my destiny. Divine timing.

@Kandia I couldn't agree wit u more.

Wow this is heavy. Reflection is always good, when you learn from the mistakes you made. Its only when you keep looking at the same person that hasnt made any changes is when problems arise.

@ this that, and the other....so true

That was heartfelt & moving.... a very honest reflection! I think when we are younger there are so many distractions & outside influences that can steer us from a path that is good. But I believe that a good heart, temporarily lost, will always resurface, just as yours did! Just Lovely!

First of all, thanks for reposting this and then sharing it with me. Reflection is good for the soul. I reflect on my life on the daily, the good and the bad. Today i needed this...i needed to hear about God's storm and his direction...so i could heed his call to me, to let go...to finally let go and live. My life is not so much tied to others than i had imagined, in fact my biggest problem was imagining too much. Now i know the outcome is not always what we wish it to be, and yet i am fully awakened to the knowledge the outcome is what it should be. Now that reflection has changed, not the naive little girl i perceived myself to be, but the grown woman with a past that will not direct her future, but because of it will enhance her future. (awe, i see a blogpost coming) thanks for that :)

I feel u on this post. I think we all need to look at ourselves n the mirror but we often dont. Possibly because we get afraid of wut we might see that not too pleasing. We sometimes avoid lookin instead of facin ourselves head on. We all make mistakes n life. Jus face them , we all could use some tweeking of ourselves. But instead we tend to pull each others cards instead of lookin at wut we can change about ourselves to become better ppl. Im kno im not perfect n im a work n progress. I think life is about growth, maturity n learning experiences. When i look n the mirror i want to b proud of the person starin back at me. We all have things to work on. I want to b the best person i can b. Great post @Champ

@peaches27.....I couldn't agree more. How could 1 claim 2 have growth if you have never come 2 terms with ur own reflection...Your not supposed 2 hold on 2 the past, but you do hav 2 acknowledge it...its part of who we are :)

Thank you sending this link to me. How appropriate! I say that because when I looked in the mirror just before I left the house for work this morning, I didn't like what I saw, and I had to stop and think and force myself to think positive thoughts. And I had to remind myself of God's love, and the love of friends and family, and I felt better.

Thanks again!

25champ said...

@Daij.....no prblm...we all need a moment to reflect from time to time...it is then that we put life in to perspective...hence the name of my blog :)

This is a great poem. I can definitely relate to being without faith in myself and then by God having renewed faith. I went through this a few years ago and its a great process once it's over.
You're a good writer and poet. Thank you for sharing this with me!
